A Key to Happiness

“Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth!” (Matthew 5:5 NIV)

Do you want to be happy?  Embrace meekness.  Before you say –say what? Let’s explore the true meaning of this word, and remember Jesus knew something about meekness that would give us the key to massive-inheritance!  Happy are the people who really understand what it means to be meek, for they will have everything they desire in life!

Myth-Buster

Meekness is absolutely not weakness. Jesus understood meekness as a powerful key: A proper estimation or value of one’s self within the broader context of God’s creation and love.  A meek person faces the reality of who they are.  They are part of God’s creation.  God is up to something in the world, and they are part of it, but they are not the center of it.

Meek people understand, “It’s not about me!” They’re not constantly fighting for more followers, more friends, and more fans. They’re not trying to be the center of attention. They are willing to follow the example of John the Baptist – where he said, “We can only receive what comes to us from heaven”.  In other words, I’m going to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way.  I’m going to do my best, but I’m not going to strive to be something beyond what God has called or enabled me to be.  I’m willing to accept God’s calling for my life, no more and no less!

I’m not going to strive on the inside to go further than perhaps God has called me to go. When we get trapped in measuring our success from this world-economy, we miss the benefits of being Citizens of Heaven!  You see, when can get caught up in forcing a certain result, there’s a potential to miss out on what our heart truly wants.

For example, I want to use the gifts and resources that God has given me to fight for families, and help people love their marriages.  But even deeper than that, I want to be a whole person who knows how to rest in my secret place and “be still and know that He is God”.  I want my own kids to be confident that nobody and no task or opportunity takes higher priority than them in my life.  My heart truly wants intimacy with Jesus and a family who laughs together, knows peace and gets to rest in unconditional love.

I personally know a Christian author who wrote an extremely popular-best-selling book that reeled him into overnight success.  After twenty years, he looks back and recognizes how the massive amounts of money and fame has brought division and discord in his own kids, robbing his retirement years of true family peace and joy.  He sat down alone with Bob and I and implored, “Don’t every let the reward take precedence over the Rewarder”.

If endeavors don’t reach the success-rate that I hoped they would, could it be that Jesus is protecting what my heart really wants?  Is it possible that I might get side tracked by ambition and miss my deepest longings?   Meekness is simply acknowledging God’s wise-assessment of me, based on who he created me to be, within the context of God’s broader creation.  Meekness is being at peace, refusing to compare their life with others. Meekness is knowing that striving and forcing are like swear words in the Kingdom of God!

Today is my day to be confident in God’s wise-assessment of my life.  With the Holy Spirit leading, I am going to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way.  I’m going to do my best, but I’m not going to strive to be something beyond what God has called or enabled me to be.  I’m willing to accept God’s calling for my life, no more and no less!

This is your Miracle Monday to have REST like never before!

Don’t worry – Be happy
